Muddy River Media

2010 Review

Well, it’s been a busy and eventful year in the life of Muddy River Media. Recently we had our 13,000th ministry registrant to begin freely downloading media from us. Our ministry resources are now being used in 147 countries around the world and we have given away over 2.2 Million dollars worth of media since our website launched in 2008! That’s pretty amazing, considering the work is being done in a small office in…

Even though Muddy River Media is very dependent on modern technology for the ministry God has called us to... I am a bit of a Luddite when it comes to all the latest gadgets, toys, and technical conveniences. I do own some decent camera gear, and my computer is probably a bit above average (it has to be to effectively and efficiently edit High Definition video), but other than that our house skews more towards Amish than it does Apple...

The Persistent Widow

Well, after four years of struggling to convince the Canadian government that Muddy River Media should be granted Charity status, we finally have won our battle. In a way I feel like the persistent widow found in Luke 8:1-8 who would not give up but kept pestering the local judge for justice. To sum up the entire process... basically the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) told us we don't fit into the box...

Thumbs Up!

A recent article from CNN.com listed 5 surefire ways to offend the locals. It proceeded to explain that certain physical gestures, while harmless enough here in North America, may result in you getting your head kicked in while traveling abroad. I think the one that jumped out at me most was the advice to avoid giving a "thumbs up" gesture while in Bangladesh and Iran.

Starting a Photo Club

A group of Christian photo enthusiasts in the HRM area are starting up a new Photo Club... but one with a difference. We want to encourage and support growth as a photographer while helping ministries around the world. If you are at all interested in being a part of this Photo Club, it would really help if you could complete the following survey. This will assist greatly in organizing a club which will be beneficial to all.

Cobbler's Nightmare

Well the other day I bent down to tie up my shoes and noticed a major seam in the side had given way. I had hardly worn these Skechers since buying them eight months ago, but here they were... falling apart already. I was not a happy camper. At. All. When I buy shoes I plan on wearing them until they are just about falling off my hooves. I'm like the anti Imelda Marcos... I think I own five pairs of shoes in total:

A Stitch in Time...

The other day while driving to a gymnasium to ref a basketball game I discovered my pants had a hole the size of a quarter in the crotch (don't ask what I was doing to make this discovery). Upon further investigation I felt the hole wouldn't be noticeable. It wasn't like I had a needle and thread in my reffing kit anyways. However, the problem escalated when I did my pre-game stretches and heard a definite ripping sound.

the Talent Around Us

There are a number of blogs and twitter accounts I monitor on a regular basis... some of them have to do with ministry, others deal with graphic design and video production. One blog/twitter account I regularly get information and inspiration from is Michale Zhang's PetaPixel. Yesterday Michael related the story of a unique social experiement involving a journalist and a world-famous musician. Here is what Michael said:

9 Things I Learned

Well, 2009 has come and gone and I thought I would share with you nine things I learned in the past year. I know... I know... lists like these are supposed to be shared at the end of the old year and not a week into the new one. Oh well... the late posting doesn't diminsh the reality of them. So... here we go... nine things I learned in 2009:

Nothing but blue sky.

I spent yesterday afternoon at Stephen & Janet-Lynn Yeomans home filming three Thanksgiving themed videos. They were very gracious, allowing me to trundle in my gear and setting up in their kitchen, office and on their front lawn. The videos are short clips and designed to humorously show how we tend to not be so thankful when things don't quite go our way in life.
